When thinking about the various rooms in the house, the kitchen is often the most popular. This is why many people take extra care when deciding how to decorate that room. Everything from the color of the paint to the types of cabinet handles and knobs to be used should be considered. When it comes to the latter, there are so many options to choose from that it can be a challenge.

There are more rooms than the kitchen, of course, that can be improved by upgrading the cabinet handles. The bathroom has storage spaces for sheets and towels, and in the laundry room, there’s often an enclosed place for detergent, bleach, and dryer sheets. Along with all the cabinets in the house, there are drawers to think of, too. Some are made to be opened by a slot etched into the wood, but if there is a handle, those should be replaced to match what you have on the cabinets.

When you think about what will work best for your room, there are some factors to consider. For instance, pulls and handles should be properly placed. You might even wish to change the original position from the center of the door to the side. Or, for cabinets under the counter, they should be high on the door, but for a cabinet high on the wall, the handle is better if it’s on the bottom of the door.

You should also make sure to count how many pieces you’ll need. It seems like common sense, but the amount adds up surprisingly fast. If it turns out you didn’t get enough, your project won’t be finished at the end of the day. Instead, you’ll have to order some more or go pick them up. Until then, you’ll be fumbling with the door whenever you want to open it.

Ensuring that you have the right screws is also important. If they’re too short, they won’t pass all the way through the wood and grip the knob tightly enough. When they’re too long, the handle will be loose, and it cannot be tightened. Also, while you’re checking the length of the screws, be sure to measure the distance between screw holes, too. The upgraded pieces you buy should be the same length as those you’re replacing.

While you’re in the planning phase, there are a couple more things to remember. One is that you can add a back-plate, which always looks nice. Also, consider how much you’re willing to pay. You might have more cabinets in the house than you realized, and it can add up.

There’s an extraordinary variety of options for knobs and handles. With so many different finishes, colors, and materials to choose from, you’re bound to find something perfect for your tastes. Stay with something basic, like simple plastic, or pick something jazzy, like animal-shaped handles.

When you’ve decided that you’re ready for new cabinet handles and knobs, you won’t have any trouble finding wonderful and unique options. Some people say they had more fun with that aspect than with any other part of the remodel. Start today, and you’ll be enjoying your new space before you know it.
